Minimizing Time with the Customers Device

Published by eKeypad on

As an installer, it can be uncomfortable to spend extended time with a customers device during the setup and testing of eKeypad. The procedure outlined below is designed to minimize the time needed with the customers device.

The majority of the setup and validation steps can be performed on your company iOS device. You will need to arrange access to the customers Wifi network.

  • Purchase the “eKeypad Pro” license using “Gift Application” process.
    1. See the detailed documentation here.
  • Update the backup of your personal configuration in eKeypad.
    1. Open eKeypad and navigate to the Config -> Backup Files screen.
    2. Choose the option to create a new backup file. To update an existing backup file, use the same file name.
  • Reset the eKeypad configuration settings.
    1. Open the iOS Settings application
    2. On the main screen, scroll down and select the “eK Pro” entry followed by the “Troubleshooting” link.
    3. Turn the “Reset Configuration” switch to ON.
  • Configure, customize and test the customers system.
  • Create a new backup file for the customer.
    1. Open eKeypad and navigate to the Config -> Backup Files screen.
    2. Choose the option to create a new backup file. Change the name to uniquely represent the customer.
  • Share the customers backup file on the local network.
    1. Open eKeypad and navigate to the Config -> Backup Files screen.
    2. Select the backup file to be shared and select the “Share Backup File” option. This option will only appear if you are connected to a Wifi network or using an ethernet connection.
  • Set your iOS device down. Leaving it on with eKeypad running in the foreground.

The last few steps require access to the customers device. With minimal experience, these steps should only take 1-2 minutes. The device will need to be connected to the Wifi during these steps and the customer will need to be present to authorize the transfer of the license code.

  • Redeem the License Code.
    1. See the detailed documentation here.
  • Import the customers backup file.
    1. Open eKeypad and navigate to the Config -> Backup Files screen.
    2. Select the “Import Shared Backup File” link.
    3. When the name of the backup appears, touch on it to download the backup file to this device.
  • Restore the backup file.
    1. Open eKeypad and navigate to the Config -> Backup Files screen.
    2. Select the newly downloaded backup file and select the “Restore Backup File” option. Leave the passcode field blank.
  • Restart eKeypad Pro when prompted.
  • Perform one last functionality test.
